Cost-Effective Electroplating Wastewater Treatment Services
As industrialization continues to advance, the electroplating industry plays an important role in creating protective coatings and enhancing the appearance of metals, plastics and many other materials. This growth, however, comes with a difficult environmental challenge, particularly electroplating wastewater. This wastewater contains high levels of heavy metals, acids, alkalis and toxic chemicals, and if not treated properly it can seriously harm human health and ecosystems. Electroplating wastewater treatment services have therefore become an essential solution, helping businesses comply with the law while demonstrating their social responsibility for sustainable development.

Article contents:
1. Characteristics and properties of electroplating wastewater
Wastewater from the electroplating industry is highly specific compared with other types of industrial wastewater. Its main components typically include:
- Heavy metals: Cr⁶⁺, Ni²⁺, Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺, Pb²⁺, etc. at high concentrations.
- Acid and alkaline solutions: HCl, H₂SO₄, NaOH, KOH, used in cleaning, neutralization and plating.
- Organic matter: surfactants, polishing solutions, colorants.
These components not only make the water more toxic but are also very difficult to treat without a suitable technology. In particular, heavy metals in electroplating wastewater can bioaccumulate, with long-term effects on human health such as neurological and cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
Why electroplating wastewater treatment matters
Investing in and using electroplating wastewater treatment services brings many important benefits:
- Legal compliance: Under the Law on Environmental Protection 2020, businesses must have a wastewater treatment system that meets the standards before discharging into the environment.
- Protecting public health: Reducing the risk of contaminating groundwater, surface water and farmland.
- Building your company's reputation: Businesses with a professional wastewater treatment system are highly regarded by partners, customers and regulators.
- Long-term cost savings: Professional services help businesses build a system that operates stably, with fewer breakdowns and no administrative penalties.
2. Effective, cost-efficient electroplating wastewater treatment services
Hop Nhat Environment provides professional electroplating wastewater treatment services that remove heavy metals and toxic chemicals and ensure the wastewater meets environmental standards before discharge. With a team of experienced engineers and modern technology, we deliver safe, effective and economical solutions for businesses. This is an important step for electroplating facilities to grow sustainably and comply with legal regulations.
2.1. Electroplating wastewater treatment consulting aligned with your environmental documentation
When advising clients on the design and construction of an electroplating wastewater treatment system, Hop Nhat always ensures that the system is consistent with the environmental documentation approved by the state authorities. This is essential for clients to meet environmental protection regulations correctly.
If the treatment system is built in a way that does not match the capacity, technology, discharge point or technical parameters stated in the environmental documentation, the business may be penalized by the authorities and required to make adjustments or prepare the documentation again. This alignment also ensures that wastewater treatment meets the standards, avoiding the risk of environmental pollution and disruption to production. It also makes it easier for the business to carry out inspection and monitoring procedures and to apply for related permits in the future.
2.2. Design, construction and installation of compliant electroplating wastewater treatment systems
Hop Nhat Environment provides turnkey environmental solutions, from consulting, design and construction to installing a complete system and putting it into service, including:
- Receiving information and recommending a suitable solution.
- Site survey and collection of necessary information.
- Process design and technical drawings of the wastewater treatment system.
- Turnkey construction and installation of the system.
- System commissioning and testing
- Operator training and technology transfer
- System operation
- Periodic maintenance and servicing

3. Flexible and effective application of wastewater treatment technology
Each electroplating plant has its own processes, capacity, wastewater properties, pollution level and flow. Hop Nhat therefore considers many factors to design a suitable, effective treatment technology.

Process flow: Wastewater > Collection tank > Reaction tank > pH adjustment tank > Slow-mixing tank > Clarifier > Effluent discharge tank > Industrial park drainage system

Process description
- Wastewater streams with high metal content, such as zinc, nickel and chromium wastewater, require pre-treatment before being fed into the centralized wastewater treatment system.
- Reaction tank: In the reaction tank, Na2S is added and mixed thoroughly by a mixer. After passing through the reaction tank, the wastewater flows to the pH adjustment tank (rapid-mixing tank), where the pH is adjusted using Ca(OH)2 and a pH probe.
- Slow-mixing tank: After pH adjustment, the wastewater flows to the slow-mixing tank. Under the action of polymer, impurities in the water adhere to the polymer, forming large flocs that flow into the chemical clarifier. A mixer is installed in the slow-mixing tank to improve the binding capacity of the polymer.
- Clarifier: The chemical clarifier is equipped with a sludge scraper. As the sludge settles to the bottom, the scraper gathers it into a central hopper at the bottom of the tank. An automatic valve releases the sludge to the combined sludge settling tank, while the supernatant flows to the effluent discharge tank.
- Effluent discharge tank: The discharge tank is fitted with a pH controller and an HCl dosing unit. To ensure the wastewater discharged into the environment has a neutral pH, HCl is dosed into the discharge tank and checked by the pH controller.
- Sludge from the sludge holding tank is sent to the sludge press and stored temporarily in the sludge storage area, after which it is collected and treated by a licensed contractor in accordance with regulations.
